Earlier this spring, New Trier High School announced a transformative $10 million gift received through the New Trier Educational Foundation to kick off this project. “The Northfield Campus serves as a central location for many of the District’s outdoor athletic practices and competitions,” explained Augie Fontanetta, New Trier’s Athletic Director. “By completing these renovations, we will improve the existing competition, practice, and spectator facilities, creating a more welcoming, functional space for our student-athletes and families.”

Next summer, the second phase will involve converting a portion of the northern grass fields and track to standard artificial turf fields and a community walking path with exercise stations. Additionally, the visitor-side stadium bleachers will be replaced with a two-sided bleacher system, including a new press box, for permanent seating on the east side for competitions that occur on that field.

The need for these expanded and enhanced facilities has never been greater. With student athletic participation steadily rising and community members seeking healthy outdoor spaces that all ages can enjoy, we can create spaces for athletes, parents, and the community to come together and support teams at all levels in many different sports. These enhancements are designed to meet current needs and support New Trier’s long-term facilities vision.

NEXT STEPS: Phase 2

Beginning summer 2026, Phase Two will bring even more transformative upgrades:

  • Converting existing North side grass fields to standard synthetic turf fields
  • Replacing the visitor-side stadium bleachers with a two-sided permanent system for competitions, which includes a new press box
  • Creating a walking path with exercise stations for community use

With philanthropic support, Phase Two has the potential to go even further:

  • LED scoreboards for the stadium and new fields
  • An additional modern press box for media, coaches, and game operations at the north fields
  • Lighting on one of the north fields to support evening competitions and community events

WHY NOW?

Student athletic participation is at an all-time high. To match this growth, New Trier must provide facilities that reflect the excellence, pride, and opportunities our students deserve. These spaces are more than bricks and turf—they are places where:

  • Students grow as teammates and leaders
  • Families and friends gather to cheer with pride

Our community comes together in support of shared excellence!
