A CAMPAIGN FOR THE NEW TRIER NORTHFIELD CAMPUS ATHLETIC FACILITIES
A generous $10 million gift—the largest donation in New Trier’s history—along with a community fundraising campaign will support a major transformation of athletic facilities at the Northfield Campus, home to many of the District’s outdoor sports programs, including football, field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse.
The project is thoughtfully designed to serve generations of current and future New Trier students by accommodating record levels of athletic participation, while also expanding opportunities for organizations that serve younger township residents and the broader community through new and enhanced amenities.
The first phase of work began in summer 2025, with the replacement of end-of-life turf at the District’s stadium and adjacent fields.
NEXT STEPS: Phase 2
The second and final phase will begin in spring 2026, with construction continuing throughout the summer and scheduled for completion in fall 2026. This phase will create a mix of school and community spaces, including an outdoor walking path with mixed-ability fitness stations that is twice the length of the existing track, as well as two turf fields that will be accessible to the community when not in use by New Trier or other school-affiliated groups.
Stadium improvements will also include replacement of the visitor-side bleachers with a two-sided seating structure that will provide spectator seating for both the stadium and the adjacent east field. New energy-efficient lighting will be installed throughout the site, incorporating the latest technology to reduce impacts on neighboring homes, and the stadium scoreboard will be replaced.
WHY NOW?
“Athletic participation continues to rise at New Trier,” said Athletic Director Augie Fontanetta, noting the addition of a robust girls flag football program and increased participation across other sports. “These improvements will benefit students, families, and township residents for generations and will bring our facilities in line with those of our peer districts.”
